10m spend and 10 games is enough to prove where we're heading. Not good enough, if he can't even prove we'll be solid. He's shown us he's not going to make us a solid team, just more inconsistency. |

i'll tell you what curds did. he took a midtable mediocer 1st division club and turned them into a stable midtable premiership club on a shoe string. what would you prefer? 1, a team that that goes up and struggles in the prem. 2, a team that stays up and looks a good bet for a mid table finnish at least. i'm for the latter myself. **thumbup |

When Curbs says that he's back in October/back in 2 weeks or whatever, I'd guess that has more to do with his compensation agreement with Charlton more than it does him having a particular club lined up. Just a guess. |

He had just over a year left, I really doubt that he just walked away from that. |

Reading between the lines the David Gold interview in the Birmingham Post gives Bruce untill the end of October to have us challanging for promotion. So it looks as if we have the "Untouchable One" in untill at least the end of October :-( Upbeat Gold relishing test Oct 3 2006 By Ian Clarkson David Gold has insisted the month of October will provide Birmingham with their toughest test yet but has backed Steve Bruce's men to emerge unscathed and on course for a return to the Premiership. Ahead of the international break, Birmingham sit second in the Championship but are suffering their first 'blip' of the campaign without a win in three fixtures. Such is the level of expectation at St Andrew's that two consecutive home draws and second place in the table is viewed by a section of supporters as disappointing. But the auguries are good for a promotion push and when Bruce's squad return to league duty after their international commitments, they face a punishing schedule of six games inside 17 days. Trips to Luton Town, Derby County and Coventry City along with Norwich City and West Bromwich Albion visiting St Andrew's represents a tough batch of league fixtures. Throw in a Carling Cup trip to Sheffield United and the picture should be far clearer regarding Birmingham's promotion credentials and Gold is convinced it is a test they will pass with flying colours. "This is a tough month but when the going gets tough, it is time for the tough to get going," said Gold. "There are lots of big games on the horizon but we are a big club and we will need to show our mettle. The board have done their bit and so have the players and manager this season. "If we come out of October there or thereabouts that will stand us in good stead." The anxiety at St Andrew's has been tangible so far this season as opponents are, unrealistically, expected to be swatted aside. With Cardiff City pulling five points clear after their demolition job on Wolver-hampton Wanderers at the weekend, Leicester City's late equaliser has only served to crank up the pressure. Nevertheless Gold is at ease with the team's position although can empathise with supporters. "Fans will be edgy because there is such huge expectation this season," he continued. "Supporters have seen the side and players we have got and thought what would we want to be different? "Would they want to change the likes of Gary McSheffrey or Nicklas Bendtner for anyone else in this division? "The answer is resounding no. When you throw in a fit David Dunn people will think 'wow, this is some team.' "It has been fine this season but I am sure the supporters will be disappointed when we look at the opportunity we had three games ago. Fortunately we had a good buffer of points and we are in there with around 12 other teams battling away. Of course we would like to be five points clear like Cardiff but we are only 12 games in and have hardly scratched the surface. "We've got a bigger squad than Cardiff and we will see how they cope with injuries and suspensions." Gold was still lamenting the decision by Steve Bennett not to send off Conrad Logan. Leicester's goalkeeper cynically fouled Dudley Campbell when he was clean through during Saturday's 1-1 draw. If Bennett had brandished a red card the outcome would arguably have been far different to the one that transpired. Whilst Bruce and his assistant manager Eric Black proffered diplomatic views over the incident, Gold was far more forthright in his opinion last night. "The last time I felt so aggrieved about a refereeing decision was at the Carling Cup final in 2001. "Andrew Johnson was bought down by Stephane Henchoz and everyone in the country knew it was a penalty. Everyone except for David Elleray who couldn't bring himself to point to the penalty spot twice in one game," recalled Gold becoming more animated. "I think the decision not to send off Leicester's goalkeeper was almost as bad. "It was a cynical foul and the goalkeeper went on to have an outstanding game as he knew it was going to be his day. "When you consider we have had four red cards this season, it makes it difficult to stomach." |

There aint no change in the situation from the start of the season. Bruce is sacked if the team suddenly blows up and loses three or four in a row and it looks as if something is drastically wrong and we are out of the hunt. That aint going to happen in this league. Curbishley doesn't want to come here. He's waiting for a PL job. We are actually second in the table and the majority of the season remains. |

Give Bruce Luton away, and if we do rubbish in that game to, and he serve's up a team that is complete drivel, then we should get Curbishley in, a really good manager, know's what this league is about, as well as the premiership, an all-round nice bloke, played for the blue's, and i think it would be a great appointment in all honesty, but we will see how it all pan's out, id much rather us beat Luton, and not lose the game, as it would be biting off your nose to spite your face, i think the saying go's, as long as blue's do well we are all happy, Curbishley would be a great bonus id say, but we can't want Bruce to do bad, it totally go's against what us as fans should do. |

I don't want to contribute to the Bruce in/ out arguement i've stayed out of it this long, i'm not going to join in now. Just one thought on Curbishley. I hanppen to think he is a decent manager BUT how long would it be before he got ripped apart here. I apologise in advance if my facts are wrong, i'm thinking of this from memory but did it not take Curbishley 3 years to get Charlton promoted, only for them to get relegated and then promoted again? He did it all on a tight budget so I see why it took so long to establish Charlton and I think he did a fantastic job to do what he did but would Bluenoses be prepared to wait if the same thing happened here? |

Curbishley has stated on numerous occasions he is looking for a premiership club who can compete at a different level to Charlton. In all fairness we're light years away from being that club. Curbishley will end up at either Newcastle or West Ham before the season is out. |

3 things to consider about Curbishley for both sides of the fence on whether he should be Blues' new manager (or not) 1: He went through promotion, relegation, promotion and THEN stability in the Premiership 2:The board of Charlton backed him after they were relegated and was able to get them back up. 3:How many seasons did they start brightly then slump towards the end, does he lack Motivational skills Despite point 3 I've always admired Curbishley as manager of Charlton, but one thing stuck out for me is the number of seasons he was manager, and that seemed to work out. Read a stat somewehere, the average CCC (thats coca-cola championship) manager has only had his current position for 1 year and 2 weeks. The average Prem manager is something like 4 years, some correlation. |

charlton's team cost pennies to build their record signing's are like darren bent and JFH we spend more than them but we are in a lower division look where they are now and if curbs was manager they would be in the top end of the table |
